Patrick Ponec, KD6PAP, is a retired Bakersfield City Fire Department Captain and the Emergency Coordinator for Western Kern County ARES. After retiring in 2014, encouragement from a friend led him to amateur radio, where he enjoys operating on 20 and 40 meters and getting outdoors for Parks on the Air (POTA) activations. Through ARES, Patrick works to improve emergency communications in the more remote areas of Western Kern County. He also operates a DMR repeater, with information and operating details provided below.
“When all else fails… there’s amateur radio.”
